The sixth installment of  LVSK8 is scheduled for July 6, 2012. This years epic event kicks off at 6:00pm @ The Get Up Gallery inside Emergency Arts located at 520 Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. The hand-painted skateboard art show coincides with Las Vegas’ monthly arts festival “First Friday” and hangs for the entire month of July.

Danny Roberts celebrates his third solo exhibition at Brett Wesley Gallery titled “Our Digital Selves”.

Las Vegas, NV – March 23, 2012 — Join Brett Wesley Gallery for the opening of Our Digital Selves featuring Las Vegas artist Danny Roberts. Opening and artist reception will be Thursday May 3, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and First Friday May 4th from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 1112 S. Casino Center Blvd in the Arts District. This event is free to the public. The exhibition will run through June 30, 2012.

In Danny Roberts show “Our Digital Selves” he presents a new series of paintings which explore the impact of the internet and how online phenomenon like Twitter and Facebook are altering our behavior, identity, and pop culture overall. Roberts uses human figures, digital iconography, and dramatic colors as he explores how our behavior is changing the way we interact with each other and the world around us.

The show is about the information age broadly, calling out our new digital lives to light, with common digital interface elements painted literally into the paintings as if they were as real as the subjects. But it’s also about insulation; we may be more connected than ever before, but these experiences are still interfaced through a customizable bubble. Our memes and avatars are as much our identity as they are a barrier.

Quotes Roberts, “One piece in particular, ‘Still Invisible’, was developed with a very vulnerable feminine face, and subdued expression, surrounded or morphed into lots of nebulous and swirling forms. Her mouth is covered with a ‘like/dislike’ video bar and icons, as if she was labeled, or her voice was literally a part of the media. It started out to be about identity and fame, but because she is still so ‘unknowable’ and surreal in the painting, it felt more like her identity was actually being censored in some way by the very thing that was bringing her attention. Everything on the Internet gets so badly judged, trolled, misinterpreted and mongered against. So what I started out just calling “You Tube Girl”, was renamed to “Still Invisible”, reflecting that the matrix is incredible, but it still isn’t real life.”
