Mirmy Winn
Vancouver, Canada
Mirmy Winn is an emerging artist showing in galleries around Vancouver, Canada. Over the past 3 years, she has created three series of themed diorama type boxes to enshrine taxidermy mounts and animal skeletons.
At times, influenced by the pop art/lowbrow culture, vintage circus caravans, the animal's origin, or simply the look in their beady black eyes, the animals themselves guide each piece. Each box is adorned to amplify the personality the artist imagines they had, from the humourous to the sombre. She breaks completely from the raditional nature scenes animals are often placed in, in favour of a more dynamic setting, one that gives each animal a unique sanctuary in which to spend their afterlife.
No animals were trapped or killed for the purpose of placing them in these art pieces. All the fur-baring animals here are either vintage mounts, mounts made from road kill, or were trapped to protect other wild life.
All work is copyright property of the artist.
